Welcome to Canolfan Cae Cymro
Canolfan Cae Cymro is located on a prominent site above the village
of Clawddnewydd near Ruthin. It has magnificent views of the
Clwydian Hills, the Berwyn range and of the beautiful landscape of the
Edeyrnion valley in the distance.
The Canolfan is a community-owned facility which was officially opened
in January 1998, following a period of fund-raising by the community of
Clawddnewydd, Derwen and Clocaenog, and the most generous
donation of land by Mr Arthur Williams, Allt y Celyn.
It is a multi-purpose building, with a large hall (room for approx. 180 to
200 people for a concert or 120 people for a meal), conservatory
available to accommodate about 25 people, well-equipped kitchen, bar
area, toilets, upstairs committee room and showers which are mainly
used by visiting football teams during the Summer League season. There
is a large car park around the Ganolfan; a children’s play area by the
entrance, and a spacious football field on the higher land above the
Ganolfan.
The Canolfan is used weekly for a variety of activities, including line
dancing, whist drives and bowling, religious meetings and also frequently
for weddings, birthday parties, rehearsals, plays, concerts, meetings,
lunches and Christmas fayres.
The Ganolfan was recently very fortunate in receiving funding from the
Clocaenog Windfarm Fund that has enabled us to modernise the
building, which includes solar panels, additional insulation in the ceiling,
new windows, tables and chairs. This means that it’s a very modern,
spacious and multi-purpose amenity for the local area and beyond.
